Hello! I'm Carolina Machin

Hi everyone! My name is Carolina Machin and I am a recent graduate of Florida International University. I graduated in the top 15% of my class, through the Honors College, and was awarded the Global Learning Medallion.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Communications Arts with a minor in Political Science and a certificate in Pre-Law Skills and Professional Values. During my time at Florida International University, I made sure to excel in my coursework while also making the most of the opportunities and resources available to me. The combination of my academic and professional experiences have shaped me into the well rounded woman I am today.

Our Services

Point Experiences

Honors DC-Fly In

I had the privilege of being flown out to Washington D.C. with the Honors College to learn more about how FIU works in collaboration with our government to assure the success of all Panthers.

SGA Division Senator

Serving for over two years as the Lower-Division Senator, I created legislation that would better the academic and social experience of all students with less than 60 credit hours specifically as well as the entire student body.

AmeriCorps Recovery

Working with underprivileged and at-risk youth in high school, I had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of 9th grade students in Broward County through consistent mentorship.

FIU Homecoming

As the internal public relations chair, I made sure that all FIU Homecoming events were well attended by the student body through several advertising and promotional campaigns on and off campus.

Exploring Your Options: TTRT

Attending the "I can't pick one" roundtable hosted by the Global Learning office allowed me to realize that the potential I have for success is much more vast than I could imagine. I am ready to explore my potential.

Exisisting as Ourselves: TTRT

I have never personally felt like my own identity was something i struggled with but this roundtable truly opened my eyes to the difficulties that many individuals just like me experience daily.

“Life's most persistent and urging question is 'what are you doing for others?'”

Reflection

As a Global Learning Medallion recipient, I was truly given a vast amount of opportunities to better myself as a student and person. From traveling the country, to interning for a US Senator, and all the enriching experiences in between. I am now a globally responsible professional who looks forward to a career where I can make a difference for others. Whether it be my neighbor or a citizen of another country, I hope to continue on a path of global citizenship and change. When faced with a complex issue, I know how to put myself in the place of the other person. I know that we are all very complex beings who have many layers making us who we are. Our culture, our habits, and social norms affect us everyday. We make assumptions about others because of these things and through my global learning courses I have become more aware of these assumptions and how to correct them. In my political cycle and Miami politics classes, I learned about the effect I can have on both local, national, and  international issues. Not only do I have the passion, I now have the knowledge to enact change. I want to live in a society that is more efficient and more diverse. I have been given the tools to be part of this change. Post graduation, I will be continuing to study law and receive my Juris Doctorate degree starting this Fall. I hope to use this degree to have a bigger impact on a global and national scale. From helping non profits to dealing with complex international trade laws, these are just some of my future plans to continue on this path of global citizenship.
